Overview

Evans is a town on the shoreline of Lake Erie in southwestern Erie County, bordered to the north by Hamburg, to the east by Eden, to the south by Brant and to the west by Lake Erie. Evans includes the village of Angola, the hamlet of Derby, and several lakeside communities.


Essentials

For grocery shopping, neighboring Hamburg has two Tops Friendly Markets stores, on McKinley Parkway and South Park Avenue. The closest Wegmans supermarket is on McKinley Parkway in Blasdell, about 15 miles northeast of Evans. For retail shopping, Hamburg has two Walmart stores and Blasdell has McKinley Mall, whose stores include Sears, JC Penney and Macy’s. 



Recreation & Entertainment

Because Evans is on the shoreline of Lake Erie, boating, swimming, camping and other outdoor activities are popular here. Evans has several public lakeside parks and beaches, and Evangola State Park is in the southern part of town. Nearby Hamburg has a popular casino and a fairgrounds that hosts the annual Erie County Fair. The Hamburg Palace Theatre offers discount movies, and McKinley Mall 6 is a larger, multi-screen movie complex.



Transportation & Traffic

The New York State Thruway, Route 20 (Southwestern Boulevard) and Route 5 all pass through Holland.



Pros & Cons

The town is on the shoreline of Lake Erie, and Evans has many public lakeside parks, beaches and marinas. This is a great place if you like waterfront living, boating or proximity to the lake’s beaches. The Frank Lloyd Wright is a popular destination.
